In 1868 the American engineer Florentine Jones settled in Schaffhausen and founded the ’International Watch Company’ (IWC). IWC has got some real top models in her collection that can rightly be called icons. One of these icons is the IWC Portuguese. In 1936 two watch-traiders from Portugal by the names of Rodrigues and Teixeira asked IWC to make a special timepiece. This timepiece had to be small enough to be serve as a wristwatch, but also big enough to match the qualities of a marine chronometer. After three years IWC had realized this idea. In 1939 the first Portuguese was produced. It was a wristwatch that had the mechanism of a pocketwatch. The Portuguese family has grown a lot the last couple of years. The members of the Portuguese-family do have a certain resemblance. Not only they are unusually precise, but also unusually large and impressive. The only thing that was missing, was a special lady’s watch. IWC changed that with the launch of a Portuguese Chronograph that was developed for women. The lady’s watch has a classic round case and is availible in two different versions. The watch is availible in white and in rosegold. The case is decorated with 80 diamonds. IWC describes this special lady’s watch as the watch for the ‘succesfull, independent woman that appreciates a qualitatively companion’.
