The IWC Portofino is known for its elegant look en discrete appearance. The first Portofino was set out by IWC Schaffhausen to conquer the world more than 20 years ago. It was a genious and inspiring transition from pocket watches to wirstwatches. This Portofino had a very discrete appearance but at the same time still looked elegant. And, in its own modest way, it was especially made to provoke an exuberant reaction from the outside world. The Portofino with reference 5251 was the founder of a very succesful IWC watch family. The 46 mm diameter looked everything but discrete, the design was calssic, the general impression simple and clear. After this came a serie of smaller models that showed that classic watches would always be popular. The touchstone of this Portofino family was discretion and durability. The family distinguished itself in many different ways. Take the Portofino reference 3731. This was an uncomparable masterpiece from IWC. IWC used the timeless simplicity of lines and stayed true to the motto that substance is more important than appearance. The Portofino watch family has kept on demonstrating its greatness. With an impressive 41 mm case the Portofino Chronograph acknowledges the mother of all Portofinos that were mentioned above.
